Rightsinfo

Grant: £180,000
July 6, 2016

This project is to establish a responsive online human rights news source, the RightsInfo News Service. It will react rapidly to breaking news stories, for example commenting on new judgments in high-profile cases, or on major news with a human rights angle with legally accurate, engaging and plain-English comment.

Human rights laws are poorly understood. This is in large part due to the overwhelmingly negative reporting of human rights judgments and issues in the press. Only legally accurate, up-to-the-minute online news source can counter this. No organisation currently provides this.

The project is to establish a responsive online human rights news source, the RightsInfo News Service. It would react rapidly to breaking news stories, for example commenting on new judgments in high-profile cases, or on major news with a human rights angle. Key will be to ensure all content is legally accurate, engaging and written in plain-English, perfect for sharing on social media. Also original content will be produced which is aimed entirely for social media, focussing on engaging graphic design and animation.
