The Legal Education Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees (referred to in our Royal Charter as Governors) who set and oversee the delivery of our strategy.

Barbora Bukovská is a Czech human rights attorney and activist. Since 2009, she has been a Senior Director for Law and Policy at ARTICLE 19, an international free speech organisation. Previously, she worked for human rights NGOs in the Czech Republic and Slovakia on a range of human rights issues, including protection from discrimination, access to justice, deprivation of liberty, reproductive rights, access to citizenship and community development. In 2006 – 2008, she was the Legal Director of Validity, an international organization working on the rights of people with disabilities in Europe and Central Asia.

Tamsin Evans has 20 years’ experience providing advice and asset management services to institutional clients. She is currently the Head of Solutions Investment at Schroders where she specialises in multi asset investment.
Tamsin began her career as a management consultant at Accenture and previously worked at Watson Wyatt (now Willis Towers Watson). She graduated from the University of Manchester with a BSc in Mathematics and qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 2006. Tamsin sits on the steering committee of the Diversity Project, a cross-company initiative championing a more inclusive culture within the Savings and Investment profession, and is a strategic advisor to a children’s charity.

Rebecca started her career working in communications and public affairs, and has since held senior roles at the Kings Fund, in a number of health regulators and in national charities. She has a particular interest in how communications and policy impact practice and behaviour.
Rebecca is currently chief executive of Maudsley Charity which funds research, clinical care improvement and community based projects related to mental health. The Charity has a particular emphasis on improving care, treatment and support for those most failed within mental health care systems and society. She has previously been a Trustee for the Point of Care Foundation.

Vivek Luthra has over 25 years experience in the banking and investment management sector and is currently a Portfolio Manager at Brevan Howard. He spent 17 years at Bluecrest Capital where he was an Interest Rates Portfolio Manager and Partner. Prior to this, he worked at Bank of America, ABN Amro and Nomura as a Fixed Income Trader. His early career was as an auditor at Coopers & Lybrand. Vivek is also a School Governor and was formerly a Vice-Chair of a large London Academy.

Alison Pickup is the Director of Asylum Aid, part of the Helen Bamber Foundation Group. Asylum Aid provides high quality legal representation to some of the most vulnerable people seeking asylum in the UK and uses its research and expertise to secure improvements to the asylum system. From 2016-2021 she was Legal Director of the Public Law Project. Alison is a barrister and until 2016 was in independent practice at Doughty Street Chambers in London. She is a member of the Expert Panel of the Strategic Legal Fund for Vulnerable Young Migrants and a member of the Bar Council’s Remuneration Committee.

Rupen Shah trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG UK, spending several years in Mergers and Acquisitions, including a secondment to KPMG India. He then went on to become the Chief Financial Officer at the Football Foundation (the UK’s largest sports charity). Rupen combines substantial expertise in charity and commercial finance with a passion for social justice and tackling inequalities and focuses his time and effort supporting causes and organisations who are obsessed with making a positive impact on society. Rupen sits on the Board of UK Sport and the Premier League Charitable Fund.

During her career Paddy Sloan has worked as a funder in the independent sector, with government and with a local council, supporting anti-poverty work, urban regeneration and community development. She also spent 8 years as Chief Executive with the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, following its establishment in 1999. Previously National Head of BBC Children in Need in Northern Ireland and interim Director of Grants and Policy across the UK, Paddy is currently Project Director with A Million & Me, a proactive impact theme focusing on children’s mental health. Formerly Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Charity Commission NI she has also served as a co-opted member of the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust Ireland Committee, as an external member of the Wellcome Trust Public Engagement Large Awards Committee and is a member of the Northern Ireland Advisory Group of the St. Stephens Green Trust pilot programme on community-based peacebuilding in Northern Ireland.

Alex Temple qualified as a solicitor in 2019 through the Justice First Fellowship, having previously worked as a Paralegal at Irwin Mitchell Solicitors. He holds undergraduate and masters degrees in law from the University of Kent. He volunteered throughout his studies at the Kent University Law Clinic, and Samphire; a charity providing support to detained people facing deportation. He trained at Just for Kids Law, specialising in education and youth justice. Upon qualifying, he worked in both law and policy to bring about positive change for children missing education. At Just for Kids Law, he designed and launched the School Exclusions Hub, a web-based toolkit to improve access to justice for young people facing exclusion from school. In 2021, Alex moved to Bindmans Solicitors to join the Public Law and Human Rights team.
