Greater Manchester Law Centre is an organisation that aims to provide free legal advice and representation to the residents of the entirety of the Greater Manchester region. Our work focuses on the needs of clients who for multiple reasons of exclusion cannot access legal help from private solicitors. We expect to provide in-depth case work to a specialist level in:

Legal Solutions to Tackling Homelessness and Destitution in Greater Manchester

Supporting a partnership between Greater Manchester Law Centre, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit and Cornerstones (a project of Caritas Salford) to identify and address the legal needs of people that are homeless, and to work with Greater Manchester Council to establish the role of specialist legal advice in its strategy to tackle homelessness and destitution across Greater Manchester.

Future Advice - A Community Law Centre for Manchester
Grant: £75,000

This project is to help establish a law centre for Greater Manchester.
It will
- enable the centre to capitalise on the many offers of volunteer and pro bono support by providing oversight, training and accountability. For example, training and supervising solicitor trainee and welfare benefits advice volunteers
- ensure its work is compliant with the necessary regulatory and supervisory regimes
- enable it to demonstrate the value of the law centre’s legal services so that it can manage the development of a wider portfolio of funding
- augment the public promotion of the need for properly funded legal aid, building on our well attended public meetings and active social media work.
